India has rejected as “absurd and motivated” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claim that the Indian government played a role in the killing of a Khalistani separatist in that country in June. The Canadians also expelled an Indian diplomat, and India responded by expelling a senior Canadian diplomat on Tuesday (September 19 ).

Who was Hardeep Singh Nijjar?

Nijjar lived in Surrey, about 30 kilometers southeast of Vancouver, the largest city in the western Canadian province of British Columbia.

What was Nijjar’s connection with KTF?

What charges were brought against Nijjar?

India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for Nijjar. In July last year, the NIA announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to his arrest in connection with the attack on a Hindu priest in Jalandhar in 2021 year.

The investigation found that Nijjar made inflammatory statements, posted inappropriate content and shared photos and videos on social media to “spread allegations of sedition” through hate speech.

Nijjar was identified in the First Information Report (FIR) that the NIA filed in December 2020, around the time when farmers in Delhi were demonstrating against the three agricultural laws. Nijjar, along with Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and Paramjit Singh Pamma, was accused of conspiring to create an atmosphere of fear and lawlessness to create discontent among the people and incite them to rebel against the Government of India.
